Death by Pineapple by Vocation Brewery

Aroma - 6/12

Low sourness, low to no grainy aromas - but reveals later as cracker-like. No hop aromas. Fairly muted aroma for a sour, and no pineapple either. No sulphur.

Appearance - 3/3

Rich golden yellow, mostly opaque with an initially white foamy head that dissipates almost immediately. Highly carbonated

Flavour - 15/20

What tartness wasn’t present in the aroma, has made an appearance in the flavour. Initial vinegar acidity is moderately tart and gets the saliva going. There are low-none grain flavours and no discernable hoppy flavours. Bitterness is masked by the sourness. What is interesting is that the beer produces an end-note sensation that finally reveals the pineapple, so the end flavour is sweet-sour with moderate pineapple flavours. The finish is moderately dry but with a touch of that pineapple sweetness.

Mouthfeel - 5/5

Medium body, the feel of which is lifted by the sourness. Moderate to moderate-high carbonation. No astringency. No creaminess or oiliness.

Overall Impressions - 7/10

This beer is refreshing and zesty. The lack of punchy, pineapple aroma lets it down, however, and this could be helped by increasing the intended fruit addition, either in the boil or during fermentation. The sour aroma and flavour can be increased by reducing the pH more. A very nice, tropical beer that is wonderful on a summer day.
